Our principal Mr. Schreiber

1. An interview
Questions:
a) How long have you been a teacher?
-Over ten years. I am in my 11th year here in Stein.
b) Were you a teacher or deputy headmaster at this school before that?
-No. At the beginning of my career I was a teacher in Ansbach. Then I was sent to the Ministry of Education for 5 years. I had to make predictions and compile statistics with a huge computer. Then I was deputy headmaster at a grammar school in Langenzenn for about 11 years, before I came to Stein in 2001.
c) Which subjects do you teach?
- I teach Maths and Physics, but I haven’t taught Physics here. You need to be familiar with the equipment, which I am not. You also need to carry out experiments and I have no time to set them up; that’s why I prefer Maths. At the moment I only teach one class – 9d.
d) Have you always wanted to be a teacher?
I don’t know if I have always wanted to be a teacher. I got an offer from Siemens when I finished my studies. They were looking for a physicist and because mathematics and physics are relatively similar to each other, and because there were no other physicists available they asked the teachers. Although I was unsure at the time, I have never regretted the decision and I love being a teacher. But at the moment I actually am only half or quarter of a teacher because most of my time is taken up by office work.
2. His tasks
Mr. Schreiber is a very busy man; he has to do many different tasks every day. One of his tasks is to represent our school wherever he goes. He also has to give interviews or write some articles for the daily newspaper. The whole secretary’s office is under his supervision. He and the deputy headmaster work out the timetables which tell students and teachers when they have class. This work takes a lot of time. When new teachers and students arrive, he has to assess them. For the funny school parties and other events he organizes teachers who will supervise the pupils. If somebody behaves badly, he must decide which penalty is fair, too. His most important job is to make sure that our school has enough money to pay, for example, for new books or lockers.
3. Mr. Schreiber in action
-When the exchange partners from Paris, Atlanta, La Réunion or China come to our school he always welcomes them in our library.
-At every concert he congratulates the musicians on their performance.
-Sometimes he has to correct tests a second time.
